Matt Dever (3rd season)
Women's Volleyball Head CoachCollege: Community College of Air Force
In 2013 Matt Dever posted a 7-26 overall record and a 3-5 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Dever led his team to the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Playoffs as the sixth seed. Two of his players – Olivia Rowland and Morgan Halbruner – earned All-NJAC Honorable Mention.
In 2012 Dever led his team to a 24-8 overall record and a 6-2 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The 24 wins is a program record for single season wins. The record of 18 wins was previously held by the 2010 team. The Scarlet Raptors made their first birth ever in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Match and the Semifinals Match in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. Dever was selected by his peers as the NJAC Coach of the Year. Four Rutgers-Camden players were selected to the All-NJAC Teams. Dever also set a new program record for coaching victories with 38.
In 2011 Matt Dever became the fifth head coach in program history, Dever led his first team to a berth in the NJAC semifinals, when the Scarlet Raptors finished with a 14-17 record overall. Two of his players – Catherine Tadeja and Morgan Halbruner – earned NJAC Second Team honors, with Halbruner also being named the conference’s Rookie of the Year.
During his tenure as an assistant coach, Dever helped Rutgers-Camden set team records for victories in each of his three seasons with the program.
Dever joined the Lady Raptors’ program as an assistant coach in 2008. One season after the club posted a winless 0-23 campaign, he helped the Raptors improve to a team-record 8-14 mark.
A year later, the 2009 squad went 11-14 to set another program record for wins and earn the first NJAC playoff berth in its history. Rutgers-Camden accomplished its success with one of the youngest teams in the country – out of the Raptors’ 10 players, eight were freshmen and one was a sophomore.
All of those accomplishments were blown away by the 2010 team, which compiled the first winning record (18-13) in program history, earned its first NJAC playoff victory and reached the conference semifinals.
A master recruiter and teacher, Dever has produced volleyball success stories everywhere he has coached. He was the head coach at Saint Joseph High School in Hammonton for four years (2004-2007), leading his team to an overall record of 50-29. Saint Joseph finished fifth and seventh in the non-public division and added a ninth-place finish in the Group 1 division under his watch.
Dever coached the Rowan University men’s club team for five years (2004-2008), posting a record of 49-24, including finishes of third place, fifth place and a pair of ninth-place showings in the MACVC.
During his time at Rowan, Dever also spent two years as an assistant coach to the women’s team in 2002 and 2003, helping the Profs post a 45-17 record in that span. The 2002 team compiled a 27-9 record during the regular season and went on to win the NJAC championship.
Coach Dever, who is attending the Community College of the Air Force, has been a member of the 177th Fighter Wing Air National Guard unit for over 19 years and also coaches their men’s, women’s and coed softball teams. He played volleyball for Ramapo College for one season and still plays in local beach volleyball tournaments. His best finish on the beach came with a third-place showing in the Open Division at the Miller Lite Memorial Day Open in Point Pleasant (May 24, 2008).
Dever lives in Glassboro with his wife Kristen and twin sons Cole and Jackson.
