Biography

A tenacious defensive guard with outstanding court vision and passing ability, Jason Richardson has been a study in perseverance during his long, injury-plagued career at Rutgers-Camden. Through his previous four seasons – his eligibility was restored after the 2011-12 campaign in which he played only eight games before injuries ended his season – Richardson has played in 75 games, giving him a shot this season to tie the program’s career mark of 100 set by Reggie Owens (1981-85). He is sixth on the program’s career list with 135 steals, needing only 29 more steals to vault into second place. His 127 career assists rank him 16th in program history and he owns career averages of 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds.
 
1665Last season Richardson became only the 11th player in program history to reach both 100 assists and 100 steals for his career.
 
Basketball 2013-14: Started all of his 23 games…Averaged 2.8 points and 3.7 rebounds…Led the team with 51 steals and finished third with 40 assists…Tied for second on the Raptors with eight blocked shots…His 51 steals tied for 16th on the program’s single-season charts…Set a career high with eight rebounds against Montclair State University (Jan. 4) and then tied it with eight boards against The College of New Jersey (Feb. 10)…Tied his career high of five assists against William Paterson University (Feb. 15)…Had a trio of five-steal games, tying his career high in contests with William Paterson University (Jan. 18), Ramapo College (Jan. 25) and New Jersey City University (Feb. 19)…Had two-block games against Montclair State (Jan. 4) and New Jersey City (Jan. 15) to match his career high…Scored his season high of seven points against both Brooklyn College (Nov. 19) and Moravian College (Jan. 13)…Collected three or more assists five times and two or more assists 12 times…Had 14 games with two or more steals, including nine occasions with three or more.
 
1666Basketball 2012-13: Played in 21 games, starting 15…Averaged 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds…Finished second on the team in both steals (41) and assists (38)…Blocked seven shots…Notched single-game career highs in points, rebounds and blocked shots, while tying his high in steals…Made first start of the season against Penn State-Brandywine (Dec. 7) and finished with a career-high 13 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field, including 2-for-3 from three-point range, and adding a 1-for-3 performance from the foul line…Also had four rebounds, two assists and three steals in the contest…Shot a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range to collect six points against Montclair State University (Dec. 15), while adding one rebound, one block and one steal…Had a career-high two blocked shots at Kean University (Jan. 5), while adding four assists, two steals, two points and one rebound…Tied career high with five steals against The College of New Jersey (Jan. 30), adding four assists, two points, one block and one rebound…In his next game, against Kean University (Feb. 2), had career-high seven rebounds, while adding nine points, three steals and four assists…Notched four four-assist games during the season and eight contests with three or more steals.   
 
Basketball 2011-12: Played in eight games, starting three before injuries ended his season…Averaged 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds…Notched 17 assists, 13 steals and two blocked shots…Shot .875 (7-for-8) from the foul line…Played 16 minutes in the Raptors’ season opener at Elon University (Nov. 18), scoring four points (4-for-4 from the foul line), grabbing four rebounds and adding two steals…Set a career high with five rebounds at Arcadia University (Dec. 5), while adding two points and two assists…Had five points, one steal, one rebound and a career-high five assists against Bard College (Dec. 7) in his first start of the season.
 
1664Basketball 2010-11: Tied for the team lead by playing in all 23 games…Made 22 starts, second on the team…Averaged 3.6 points and 1.5 rebounds…Second on the team with 32 assists and 30 steals…Shot 33-for-84 (.393) from the field, including 6-for-20 (.300) from three-point range…Was 11-for-21 (.524) from the foul line…Finished 16th in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in steals per game (1.3) and 32nd in the conference in assists per game (1.4)…Made collegiate debut with a start at Gwynedd-Mercy College (Nov. 16) in the Raptors’ season opener, scoring two points and compiling the first of his three four-assist performances…Also had four-assist games at Marymount University (Nov. 28) and against The College of New Jersey (Feb. 5)…In the Marymount game, set his career high with four rebounds, a mark he tied at Leman College on Dec. 30…Scored six points apiece against Berkeley College (Feb. 15) and The College of New Jersey (Jan. 5) as the Raptors won both games…Overall, collected three or more assists on six occasions and had three or more steals five times…Set a short-lived career high with seven points against Kean University (Jan. 19)…Notched a new career high with 10 points at Richard Stockton College (Feb. 2), shooting 3-for-6 from the field, including 1-for-2 from three-point range, and 3-for-6 from the foul line…Added two rebounds and one assist in that game…Short 4-for-6 from the field, scored eight points, added three rebounds, two assists and one steal at Rowan University (Feb. 9).
