Mike Ryan (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) has had many accomplishments in his three-year collegiate career, and the two-time All-American added another stamp to his legacy here Saturday afternoon.
Ryan broke a scoreless tie early in the first half when he scored the 47th goal of his career, tying the Rutgers-Camden program record. His tally helped the Scarlet Raptors defeat Ramapo College, 2-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
Rutgers-Camden, the three-time defending NJAC champion, improves to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Ramapo falls to 6-6-2 and 0-4-1.
Ryan's goal came at 54:58 when he headed in a cross by junior midfielder
Connor Hurff (Sewell, NJ/St. Augustine Prep). His 47th goal tied the career mark set by
Mitch Grotti last season and also gave him 15 career game-winning goals, four shy of Grotti's record. It was his eighth goal of the season.
The two points also increased Ryan's career total to 106, 12 shy of Grotti's program record.
Hurff wasn't finished with his big day, as he tacked on his third goal of the season to provide an insurance tally. It was assisted by junior midfielder
Grant Taylor (Mendham, NJ/West Morris-Mendham) at 75:07.
Rutgers-Camden out-shot Ramapo, 13-10, and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Raptor junior goalie
Eric Bumbera (Wall, NJ/Wall) made three saves to notch his second shutout of the season. Ramapo junior goalie
Brady O'Connor (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) had five saves and also was aided by a backsave.
Rutgers-Camden will host The College of New Jersey Wednesday at 7 p.m. in another NJAC game.
