CAMDEN, N.J. – Senior guard Alex Nardoza (Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) scored 21 of her game-high 31 points in the second half to help the Richard Stockton College women's basketball team defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 73-60, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.

Richard Stockton improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC with its fifth consecutive win. The Ospreys have won their last 24 games against the Scarlet Raptors and lead the all-time series, 54-18.

Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raptors have lost five straight games.

The teams traded leads six times in a tight opening half before the Ospreys finally took the lead at 25-24 on a layup by Nardoza late in the half. She added another layup moments later to give Stockton a 27-24 halftime lead. She had 10 points in the opening half for the Ospreys, while Rutgers-Camden senior center Tanjae Lewis (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) had 12 points to lead all scorers at the break.

Rutgers-Camden scored the first field goal of the second half on a layup by freshman forward Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) to make it a one-point game at 27-26, but the Ospreys followed with seven straight points, sparked by a layup by senior forward Lauren Alwan (Cherry Hill, NJ/Timber Creek), who followed with a steal and a feed to Nardoza for another layup. A three-pointer by senior forward Sara Farrell (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) ended the run, making it a 34-26 game.

Trailing by 10 points, 52-42, Rutgers-Camden went on an eight-point run, cutting its deficit to 52-50 on a layup by Lewis with 5:03 remaining in the game. The Ospreys, however, responded with their own eight-point run to pad their lead to 60-50 and the Scarlet Raptors never came closer than eight points (60-52) the rest of the way.

Nardoza finished her big game 10-for-19 from the floor, including 1-for-3 from three-point range. She was 10-for-10 from the foul line, all in the second half. Stockton also had a big game from freshman forward Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), despite playing only 23 minutes due to foul trouble. Williams, who entered the game leading all of Division III nationally in blocked shots per game (6.57) had a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds. She also blocked three shots.

Farrell finished with 11 points for the Ospreys, who shot 27-for-66 (40.9 percent) from the floor and 16-for-22 (72.7) from the foul line. They also held a 42-41 edge off the boards.

Rutgers-Camden received 18 points from Lewis, 12 from Obasi and 10 from junior guard Krystle Cook (Philadelphia, PA/Girard College).

Senior guard Alex Gravinese (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) dished off a career-high six assists for the fifth time as a Scarlet Raptor, while senior guard/forward Irene Grimanis (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and barely missed a double-double by scoring a career-high nine points. Her 10 boards pushed her to 502 for her career, making her only the 10th player in program history to collect over 500 rebounds.

Rutgers-Camden shot 25-for-60 (41.7 percent) from the floor, but also had nine more turnovers (19-10) than Richard Stockton.

Both teams return to action this weekend. Stockton plays a 6 p.m. NJAC game at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday. Rutgers-Camden hosts Yeshiva University Sunday in a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
