Frick, WPU topple Rutgers-Camden

Box Score WAYNE, N.J. (Feb. 15, 2014) – The William Paterson men's basketball team went on an 18-6 run early in the second half, breaking open a seven-point game, and the Pioneers went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 78-65 , in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest here Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers improve to 19-5 overall and 13-4 in the NJAC with their fifth straight victory. The Scarlet Raptors fall to 4-20 overall and 2-15 in the conference with their fifth straight loss.

Paterson has won five straight games against Rutgers-Camden and 44 of the last 46 to take a 57-6 lead in the all-time series.

The Pioneers built a 37-28 halftime lead and tacked on the first two points of the second half to make it an 11-point game. Rutgers-Camden notched consecutive field goals by sophomore guard/forward John Tatem (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) and junior guard/forward Teon Russell (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson), slicing the margin to 39-32 with a little under a minute gone in the second half.

William Paterson followed with its 18-6 run over the next 5:30, opening up a 57-38 lead and cruising to the win.
Freshman guard Zach Frick (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) scored a game-high 22 points for Paterson, shooting 7-for-10 from the floor, including 6-for-7 from three-point range.

Senior guard Javae King-Gilchrist (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) tallied 20 points for the Pioneers, while adding game highs of five assists and three steals.

Junior guard Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for Paterson, while junior guard Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) also scored 10 points.
Senior forward Robert Anders (Vero Beach, NJ/Vero Beach) paced Rutgers-Camden with 16 points, setting his career high with the Scarlet Raptors. His previous high was 14 points against Rowan on Nov. 28, 2012. He also added seven rebounds .
Tatem finished with 13 points and six rebounds, while junior guard/forward Alex Smart (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) added 10 points. Russell finished with nine points and seven boards.

Junior guard Jason Richardson (Cedarbrook, NJ/Winslow Township) tied Paterson's King-Gilchrist with the game high of five assists.

Paterson shot 44.3 percent (27-for-61) from the floor, including 10-for-27 (37.0) from three-point range. Rutgers-Camden went 23-for-55 (41.8) from the floor, but only 4-for-15 (26.7) from beyond the arc.

The Scarlet Raptors held a 38-34 edge off the boards, but also committed 13 turnovers to the Pioneers' seven.

The Scarlet Raptors close their season Wednesday when they host New Jersey City University in an 8 p.m. NJAC Senior Night game. The program will honor Anders that night.
