Martin allowed eight hits, two walks and two earned runs in six-plus innings, while striking out five. After walking the leadoff man in the seventh inning, Jones came in to induce a double play and end the inning with a strikeout. Only two Knights reached base the rest of the way against the senior righty – coming on a ninth-inning error and a fielder's choice that didn't retire a batter. Jones struck out three in his three-inning stint.
Offensively, the Scarlet Raptors collected 10 hits against five Neumann pitchers, with freshman catcher
Jon Theckston (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and junior designated hitter
Adam Bartholomew (Haddon Heights, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Junior centerfielder
Bobby Romano (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI, while freshman third baseman
Joe Brooks (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Rutgers-Camden took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Bartholomew singled and was erased on a fielder's choice by Romano. Theckson's two-out single plated Romano.
Neumann bounced back with both of its runs in the fourth inning on four hits, including an RBI single by junior rightfielder
Matt Sheneman (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Regional), and a sacrifice fly by sophomore leftfielder
A.J. Koscelansky (East Norriton, PA/Pope John Paul II).
Rutgers-Camden bounced back in a three-run fifth inning to take the lead for good. With one out, junior first baseman
Connor Hall (Delran, NJ/Delran) doubled. He scored on a two-out double by Romano to tie the game at 2-2. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Brooks delivered a two-run single.
The Scarlet Raptors added a run in the sixth on a RBI single by Bartholomew. Theckston doubled home Romano, who had walked and stolen second, for the final run in the seventh.
Neumann starter
Kristian DeLuzio (Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) took the loss, dropping his record to 0-2 for the 3-7 Knights. DeLuzio worked 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits, six walks and four earned runs. He struck out six.
Three players for the Knights went 2-for-4 apiece: junior third baseman
Buddy Elgin (Chestertown, MD/Kent County), Sheneman and senior second baseman
Trevor Wilkins (Georgetown, DE/Sussex Central).
The Scarlet Raptors host Widener University Wednesday in a 3:30 p.m. game.
