CLERMONT, Fla. – Sophomore pitcher Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) continued her shutout pitching and the Rutgers University-Camden softball team turned nine hits, five walks and four Southern Maine errors into a 10-0 five-inning victory over the Huskies at the Dot Richardson Spring Games here Sunday morning.

Rutgers-Camden improves to 4-1, while the University of Southern Maine falls to 0-3.

Scott worked four no-hit innings, walking two and striking out three, to raise her record to 3-0. Freshman Sydney Allen (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) finished off the shutout with a scoreless fifth inning in the game stopped by the eight-run mercy rule. Allen struck out one and allowed the Huskies' only hit --- a two-out triple by junior rightfielder Lillian Cooper (Lamoine, ME/Ellsworth).

Scott has now worked 20 innings without allowing an earned run this spring.

Offensively, the Raptors' nine-hit attack was led by sophomore second baseman Cait Eltzholtz (Bellmawr, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs scored. Junior shortstop Krystine Rice (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and one run scored, while sophomore third baseman Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran) went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one run.

Senior catcher Tabby Dick (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) slammed a solo home run, her second round-tripper of the season, while sophomore centerfielder Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) went 1-for-1, ripping a double, and added two walks.

The Scarlet Raptors scored all the only run they needed in the first inning when Scott was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a single by Rice. Rice notched another RBI on a third-inning fielder's choice, plating Eltzholtz, who had reached on an infield single.

Rutgers-Camden broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning, aided by three hits, three errors, a walk and an illegal pitch. Dick started the uprising by drilling a one-out solo home run to left-center field. Following a pair of errors, Larson delivered a two-run double to right-center. An error, a walk and a bases-loaded illegal pitch scored another run and junior rightfielder Devon Welsh (Maple Shade, NJ/Audubon) singled home the final tally of the inning.

The Raptors added three more runs in the fifth, two coming on a single by Rice.

Southern Maine senior starter Stephanie Stockwell (Buxton, ME/Bonny Eagle) took the loss, working four innings and allowing seven hits and seven runs – only three earned. She walked three and struck out three.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action later today with a 1 p.m. game against Western Connecticut State University.
