AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Anderson University baseball team rode the combined four-hit pitching of starter
Cameron Dotson (Ocoee, FL/Ocoee) and two relievers and broke open a 2-2 game with a four-run fifth inning as the Ravens defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 7-2, Monday morning at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
It was the third straight loss for the Scarlet Raptors at the RussMatt event, dropping their record to 2-3. The Ravens, based in Anderson, Indiana, improve to 7-2 with their fourth win in its last five games.
With the score tied at 2-2, the Ravens used four hits, two hit batsmen and a sacrifice fly to produce four runs in the decisive fifth inning. Junior catcher
Cole Heberling (Anderson, IN/Anderson) singled home the tie-breaking run and senior first baseman
Zack Hufferd (Connersville, IN/Connersville) added a two-run double. Junior centerfielder
Jacob Craft (LaPorte, IN/LaPorte) plated the final run of the inning with a single.
Dotson (2-0) picked up the win, hurling six innings and allowing four hits, one walk and two earned runs. He struck out four. Sophomore

Nick Nunez (Winona Lake, IN/Warsaw) hurled hitless shutout ball over the final two and one innings, respectively.
The Ravens took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning off Raptor sophomore starter
Chris Scarlett (Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit), aided by one hit, two walks, a fielder's choice and an error. Scarlett worked the first four innings, allowing the two runs (one earned) on two hits and five walks. He struck out six.
Rutgers-Camden tied the game in the third after freshman shortstop
Tim Holder (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) hit a one-out single and was chased to third on a double by freshman catcher
Jon Theckston (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). After sophomore second baseman
Brett Tenuto (Audubon, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, freshman third baseman
Joe Brooks (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) plated a run on a fielder's choice. Senior rightfielder
Adrian Gonzalez (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) followed with a game-tying single.
Anderson collected its four runs in the fifth off sophomore reliever
Kyle Gaff (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester), who worked two innings and allowed six hits and four earned runs. Gaff (0-1) struck out one.
Theckston's double was the lone extra-base hit for the Raptors, who also had one single apiece from Brooks, Gonzalez and Holder.

Austin Young (Southport, IN/Southport) had three hits apiece for the Ravens.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Tuesday at 9 a.m., facing Worcester State University of Worcester, Massachusetts.
