Rice, Larson power offense as Raptors top Oberlin

Box Score
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Rutgers University-Camden softball team roared back from an early two-run deficit and went on to defeat Oberlin College, 7-4, Saturday morning at the Dot Richardson Spring Games.
Krystine Rice

Sophomore Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) hurled an eight-hitter and allowed only two earned runs as she raised her record to 6-2 and hiked the Scarlet Raptors' spring mark to 7-3-1. Scott struck out two and didn't walk a batter.
Oberlin, a team based in Oberlin, Ohio, dropped to 1-3.

The Scarlet Raptors fell behind, 2-0, on a two-run home run in the first inning by sophomore second baseman Jenny Hill (Bellevue, CA/Lake Washington), but the Rutgers-Camden offense clicked into gear in the second inning. Consecutive singles by junior shortstop Krystine Rice (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and freshman first baseman Jessea Macaluso (Charlotte, NC/Allentown) set up a RBI single by sophomore centerfielder Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest). The tying run scored when senior designated player Gabby Colon (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) reached on an error.
Katie Larson

Rutgers-Camden took the lead for good in the top of the third on four consecutive singles. After base hits by Scott, Rice and Macaluso loaded the bases, sophomore third baseman Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran) roped a two-run single to right-center.

After the Yeowomen cut the gap to 4-3 with an unearned run in the bottom of the third, the Scarlet Raptors countered with three runs in the fourth. Senior catcher Tabby Dick (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on a double by Scott. Rice singled both home and advanced to second on the throw. She scored on a single by Larson.

Oberlin added an unearned run in the sixth for the final score.

Rice went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs for the Scarlet Raptors, while Scott, Macaluso, Larson and Day all added two hits. Larson drove home three runs and Scott scored twice.

Rutgers-Camden concludes its spring trip with another game Saturday, facing Elmhurst College of Elmhurst, Illinois.
