Box Score WAYNE, N.J. – Rowan senior right-hander
Krysti Maronski (Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and settled for a one-hit shutout as the third-seeded Profs edged sixth-seeded Rutgers University-Camden, 1-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference Softball Championship Tournament second-round game here Friday.
The loss drops the Scarlet Raptors (18-15-1) into the losers' bracket, where they will play Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against Montclair State University, which lost to Kean, 3-2, in Friday's final game.
Rowan will face William Paterson in another losers' bracket contest on Saturday. The top-seeded and host Pioneers eliminated No. 5 Richard Stockton College, 6-1, Friday.
The only Raptor hit off Maronski came with one out in the seventh inning when junior shortstop
Krystine Rice (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) singled to right field. One out later, sophomore third baseman
Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran) drew a walk before Maronski nailed down her 18th victory in 23 decisions this year.
The only other walk she allowed came in the third inning when senior catcher
Tabby Dick (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) drew a free pass with two outs. Maronski struck out 12.
Maronski had to be on her game, since Rutgers-Camden sophomore righty
Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) also tossed a gem. Scott allowed only five hits and didn't walk a batter. She struck out one and allowed just one earned run as her record fell to 16-13.
The only run in the game came in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Rowan senior leftfielder
Jennifer Arcella (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) had an infield single to shortstop and sophomore designated player
Ashley DeYoung (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) singled her to second. Junior second baseman
Alysa Romero (Newfield, NJ/Vineland) followed with a single up the middle to plate Arcella.
