Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Rutgers University-Camden softball team opened its spring break schedule here Monday at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, splitting a pair of games against Eureka College and Guilford College.
The Scarlet Raptors (2-3) toppled Eureka, 13-1, in the five-inning opening game before dropping a 5-1 decision against Guilford.
Rutgers-Camden continues its spring trip tomorrow, playing Eureka in another 9:30 a.m. game before facing the College of Mount Saint Vincent (Riverdale, New York) at 1:30 p.m.

In their first game of the day, the Scarlet Raptors fell behind by a run in the bottom of the first inning before responding with 13 unanswered runs. They scored four times in the second inning, once in the third and put the game away with an eight-run fifth inning, highlighted by six hits and two errors.

Lindsay Day (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) hit a solo home run in the third inning for the Raptors, while the big fifth inning was highlighted by a two-run double by junior third baseman
Katie Larson (Delran, NJ/Delran) and a two-run triple by freshman designated player
Samantha Sandridge (Friendswood, TX/Friendswood). Sandridge ripped four of the Raptors' 17 hits, while Nichols added three. Winning pitcher
Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) and Larson had two hits apiece.
Eureka College, out of Eureka, Illinois, collected only two hits as it fell to 0-3. Scott walked one and struck out four as she worked all five innings after relieving Sandridge in the first.

in second gameIn the second game of the day, the two teams were locked in a 1-1 tie until the Quakers (9-5) scored a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to earn their fourth straight win and sixth victory in the last seven games.
Guilford, out of Greensboro, North Carolina, broke the tie in the fifth on an infield single by freshman right fielder
Darby Kozan (Morgantown, PA/Twin Valley) and a two-run home run to center by sophomore second baseman
Caroline Barnette (Matthews, NC/Butler). The Quakers added four hits for two more runs in the sixth, including RBI singles by sophomore shortstop
Taylor Boyd (Franklinton, NC/South Granville) and junior left fielder
Brooks Bray (Thomasville, NC/Ledford). Sophomore
Tyler Miles (Burlington, NC/Western Alamance) picked up the win, tossing a three-hitter and allowing one earned run and two walks. She struck out eight.

Brittany Scott (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) took the loss, allowing nine hits and five earned runs in six innings. She walked two and struck out two.
Scott, Simmons and Garcia each had a single for the Raptors. Scott scored the lone run on a fourth-inning wild pitch.
