CAMDEN, N.J. (July 23, 2015) – During their brief careers with the Rutgers University-Camden baseball program,
Jeff Singer (Cinnaminson, NJ/Holy Cross) and
Adrian Gonzalez (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) compiled all-star credentials and memorable senior seasons.
This summer, the two former Scarlet Raptors are building professional baseball memories in independent leagues.
Gonzalez compiled two of the best offensive years in program history during his two seasons at Rutgers-Camden in 2013 and 2014. He now plays both third base and right field for the
Road City Explorers, a travelling team in the
North Country Professional Baseball League. Singer, a southpaw who played his senior season in 2015 with the Scarlet Raptors, joined the local
Camden Riversharks on July 17 and now pitches for the
Atlantic League of Professional Baseball team. In two games since then, Singer has worked 5-2/3 innings, allowing four hits, five walks and three earned runs for a 4.76 ERA. He has two strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .211 batting average.

On Monday night, he worked 2-2/3 shutout innings against the Somerset Patriots, walking two and striking out two without allowing a hit.
Gonzalez, who played third base during his first season at Rutgers-Camden before switching to right field for his senior year, has played in 16 games with the Explorers, beginning with his debut on June 16 against the Newburgh Newts, when he went 0-for-3 with a walk and one run scored. Overall, he is hitting .213 (13-for-61) with two doubles, 11 runs, two stolen bases, five walks and six RBIs. He also has 38 putouts and five assists.
Gonzalez had back-to-back two-hit games against the Old Orchard Beach Surge on July 5-6, including a 2-for-4 performance with a double, two runs and three RBIs on July 5.
Singer captured New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team honors and New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Division II/III Second Team recognition during his one season at Rutgers-Camden in 2015. He was a two-time NJAC Pitcher of the Week (April 6 and April 27), earned ECAC Div. III Metro Pitcher of the Week recognition on April 28 and capped that week as a NCBWA NCAA Div. III National Honorable Mention Pitcher (April 30). His national honor came in recognition of pitching the seventh no-hitter in Rutgers-Camden history, a 7-0 win at Montclair State University (April 23) in which he struck out 10 and walked four.
Overall, Singer led the Scarlet Raptors' staff in starts (10), innings (66), strikeouts (69) and saves (2), while tying for the staff lead in appearances (13). He compiled a 3.82 ERA and a 4-3 record.
Singer started his collegiate career at Gloucester County College, where he was a two-time junior college All-American, set the Roadrunners' career record for wins (21) and was named the National Player of the Year in 2013. He pitched one season at Monmouth University in 2014, earning MAAC Pitcher of the Week and ECAC Pitcher of the Week honors on April 22 and 23, respectively. He finished his collegiate career with the Scarlet Raptors.
Like Singer, Gonzalez also was a terrific junior college player before finishing his career at Rutgers-Camden. He played two seasons at Camden County College, earning All-Region XIX and All-Garden State Athletic Conference First Team honors.
Adrian Gonzalez during his Scarlet Raptor career During his first year with the Scarlet Raptors in 2013, Gonzalez played third base and hit .339 with eight home runs, 41 RBIs, a .603 slugging percentage, three triples and a program record-tying 16 doubles. He captured NJCBA Div. II/III Third Team and ABCA/Rawlings Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team honors.
As one of the Raptors' team captains during his senior season in 2014, Gonzalez helped lead Rutgers-Camden to its first regular-season NJAC title and first NCAA tournament berth in program history. He played right field and hit .339 for the second straight year, ripping 15 doubles and six home runs while setting a single-season program record with 53 RBIs. He compiled a .560 slugging percentage and a .415 on-base percentage on his way to earning NJAC Second Team, NJCBA Div. II/III First Team and ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region First Team honors. He also was named to the All-Tournament Team at the NCAA Newark, New York, Regionals.
Gonzalez started all 86 of his games during two years at Rutgers-Camden, while compiling 199 total bases for ninth on the program's career list. Despite playing only half of his career with the Raptors, he ranks fourth on the program's all-time list in home runs (14), fifth in RBIs (94), tied for eighth in doubles (31) and sacrifice flies (6) and tied for 16th in hits (116). His .582 career slugging percentage ranks fifth on the program's career list, while his .339 batting average is 12th among all players with 200 or more at bats.
