Volleyball team celebrates Senior Night in loss to Ramapo

CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 25, 2016) – Junior outside hitter Larysa Iwaskiw (Westwood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) collected 22 kills and hit .419 to lead the Ramapo College volleyball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Tuesday night.
 
The Roadrunners won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-23.
 
Ramapo, which won its 18th straight match, improves to 22-3 overall and 8-0 in the NJAC, sweeping through all of its regular-season conference matches. The Roadrunners will be the top seed and draw a first-round bye when the NJAC playoffs begin Tuesday, Nov. 1. They will host a semifinal match on Thursday, Nov. 3. Ramapo will be looking to end an eight-year run by Stockton University as the NJAC champions.
 
Rutgers-Camden falls to 14-15 overall and closes its NJAC season with a 2-6 conference mark.
 
Prior to the match, the Scarlet Raptors recognized their two co-captains, Melanie Kaiser (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) and Caitlin Marchlowitz (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) with a Senior Night celebration. Both players rank among the program's career leaders in many categories.
 
Kaiser ranks second in digs (1,604), fourth in aces (171), and fifth in both matches (113) and sets (396). Marchlowitz is tied for second in matches (118), third in sets (406), fourth in digs (1,012) and sixth in aces (134).

The first match featured 10 ties and three lead changes before Ramapo broke open an 18-16 set with six straight points to grab a 24-16 lead. After Rutgers-Camden cut the gap to 24-18, Iwaskiw clinched the Ramapo win with a kill.
 
In the second set, the Roadrunners scored the first six points to take the lead for good, and the closest the Raptors came after that was a 6-2 deficit. The third set, meanwhile, was tied at 14-14 before the Roadrunners scored eight of the next nine points to make it 22-15. Rutgers-Camden fought back to slice its deficit to 24-23 before Ramapo clinched the set and the match.
 
Kaiser finished with a match-high 14 digs for the Scarlet Raptors, while freshmen Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) and Morgan Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) led the team with six kills apiece. Junior Cortnee Wilkerson (Los Angeles, CA/West Adams Prep) added five kills and freshman Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) had four.
 
Freshman Caitlynn Marcano (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) paced the team with 14 assists, and both Marcano and Marchlowitz had two service aces. Freshman Meghan Gallagher (Sicklerville, NJ/Paul VI) added seven assists.
 
Ramapo will host Farmingdale State Thursday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match that will serve as Senior Night for its departing trio of seniors.
 
Rutgers-Camden travels to Wilkes University Sunday to close the regular season with a tri-match against Wilkes (1 p.m.) and Penn State-Harrisburg (3 p.m.). The Scarlet Raptors will have to win both matches to hike their record above .500 so they can be eligible for a possible ECAC tournament berth.
