Tabitha Davis (Irvington, NJ/Benedictine Academy) collected nine kills apiece to lead the Scarlet Raiders over Rutgers University-Camden, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference volleyball match here Tuesday night.
Newark won by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20, leaving the Scarlet Raiders at 2-2 in NJAC play and dropping the Scarlet Raptors to 2-3. The victory lifts the Scarlet Raiders to 10-7 overall, while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 11-11.
Rutgers-Camden received eight kills apiece from junior
Cortnee Wilkerson (Los Angeles, CA/West Adams Prep) and freshman
Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat), while freshman
Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) added six kills and six digs. Wilkerson's eight kills gave her 496 for her career, breaking her tie with
Sydney Allen (2012-15) at seventh place on the all-time list.
Freshman
Caitlynn Marcano (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) notched a match-high 16 assists, while adding five digs, two kills and a service ace for the Scarlet Raptors, while senior
Caitlin Marchlowitz (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had a match-high four service aces and added five digs and three kills. The five digs moved her career total to 953, only three behind fourth-place Rebecca Brown (2010-12) on the program's all-time list.
Senior
Melanie Kaiser (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) collected a match-high 28 digs for the Raptors, while adding two aces and three assists. Kaiser, who is second on the program's career list for digs, raised her total to 1,507.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Thursday with a 7 p.m. non-conference match at Misericordia University.
