Deion Boyer (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Learning Center) scored on layup with five seconds remaining here Saturday afternoon to lift the Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 72-71, in a non-conference game.
Bryn Athyn evens its record at 4-4, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-6.
The Scarlet Raptors held a 10-point lead, 56-46, with 10:22 remaining after a three-pointer by junior guard
Charlie Riccardi (Mullica Hill, NJ/St. Joseph-Hammonton). The Lions, however, went on a 12-2 run, forcing the seventh tie of the game at 58-58 on a trey by junior guard
Austin Nyekan (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) with 6:52 remaining. From there, the teams swapped leads four more times and were tied on four other occasions coming down the stretch.
Rutgers-Camden took its final lead, 71-70, with 11 seconds remaining on a free throw by sophomore center
Isaac Destin (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood). Six seconds later, Boyer scored his game-winning layup. The Raptors attempted a three-pointer at the buzzer, but it was off the mark.
The game was tight all the way until Rutgers-Camden eventually opened up its short-lived 10-point lead in the second half. The lead changed hands three times in the opening half, which also saw the teams tied on six occasions. With the score deadlocked at 28-28, the Scarlet Raptors scored eight of the final 10 points to grab a 36-30 lead at the break. Rutgers-Camden took a 31-28 lead on a three-pointer by freshman guard
Keith Washington Jr. (Clementon, NJ/Monsignor Bonner) and added a layup by Destin. After a field goal by the Lions cut the gap to 33-30, the Raptors closed out the half with a three-pointer by senior guard

Destin had 10 first-half points for the Raptors, while sophomore guard
Elijah Robles (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) added nine. For Bryn Athyn, senior forward
Stephan Tucker (Queens, NY/Neshaminy) scored 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.
The Scarlet Raptors outscored the Lions, 20-16, over the first half of the final period to build their 56-46 lead. Bryn Athyn, however, finished out the game with a 26-15 run to win the contest by one point.
Tucker paced the winners with a game-high 18 points, while senior forward
Christian Rivera (South Cotabato, Philippines/Archbishop Ryan) netted 16. Boyer netted 13 and senior forward
Troy Steed (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Learning Center) added 10 points, including five big ones in the 12-2 run that overcame the Raptors' 10-point lead.
Robles scored 15 points to pace four Scarlet Raptors in double figures. Destin netted 14, and barely missed a double-double with nine rebounds, while Martin and Riccardi both added 12. Martin also had eight rebounds and game highs of eight assists and three steals.
Rutgers-Camden shot 27-for-58 (46.6 percent) from the floor to Bryn Athyn's 24-for-54 (44.4) and held a 39-30 advantage off the boards. The Lions, however, had three fewer turnovers (13-10), hit one more trey (8-7) and shot 16-for-22 from the foul line (72.7) to the Raptors' 10-for-16 (62.5).
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Rutgers-Newark in an 8 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
