GLASSBORO, N.J. (Sept. 20, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team fought back to take a marathon second set, but the Rowan University Profs went on to post a 3-1 victory in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Tuesday night.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC, while Rowan improves to 3-9 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
After Rowan won the opening set, 25-20, Rutgers-Camden battled to a 30-28 win in the second set, which included a pair of kills by sophomore
Myiah Gatling (Woolwich Township, NJ/Kingsway Regional) to bring the Raptors from 26-26 to 28-28. The Raptors closed out that set with points on a service error and attack error by the Profs.
Rowan, however, bounced back to take the next two tight sets, 25-22, 25-21.
For the match, freshman
Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) collected nine kills, while junior
Cortnee Wilkerson (Los Angeles, CA/West Adams Prep) and freshman
Jassmine Watson (Penns Grove, NJ/Clearview Regional) both had seven kills. Watson added a pair of solo blocks. Gatling finished with four kills and three blocks (one solo and two assisted) and freshman
Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) had another big match with five kills and four blocks (two solo, two assisted).
Senior
Melanie Kaiser (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) paced the team with 24 digs, while fellow senior co-captain
Caitlin Marchlowitz (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) added 11. A pair of players from the Raptors' large class of talented freshmen,
Natalie DiGiacomo (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and
Caitlynn Marcano (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), both had 10 digs.

Meghan Gallagher (Sicklerville, NJ/Paul VI) had 17 and 11 assists, respectively.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Thursday for another 7 p.m. NJAC match, traveling up to Wayne, New Jersey to face William Paterson University.
