GWYNEDD VALLEY, Penn. (Sept. 29, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team won its fourth match in its last five outings by outlasting host Gwynedd Mercy University, 3-1, in a marathon non-conference battle here Thursday night.
The Scarlet Raptors won by scores of 28-26, 25-20, 22-25 and 28-26.
Homecoming week
The victory lifts Rutgers-Camden to 10-9. Gwynedd Mercy falls to 7-7, snapping its three-match winning streak.
Freshman outside hitter
Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) collected 12 kills and three block assists to pace the Scarlet Raptors, while junior outside hitter
Cortnee Wilkerson (Los Angeles, CA/West Adams Prep) notched 10 kills, freshman outside hitter
Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) had nine kills and sophomore middle hitter
Myiah Gatling (Woolwich Township, NJ/Kingsway Regional) had six kills and four block assists.
Freshman setter
Caitlynn Marcano (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) had 23 assists, 11 digs and one ace, while freshman defensive specialist
Meghan Gallagher (Sicklerville, NJ/Paul VI) notched 18 assists.
Senior co-captains
Melanie Kaiser (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) and
Caitlin Marchlowitz (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had 18 and 16 digs, respectively, with Marchlowitz adding one service ace and four kills. Freshman
Morgan Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) also added one ace.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday with a tri-match at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Rutgers-Camden will face John Jay College of Criminal Justice at 1 p.m. and the host Brewers at 3 p.m.
