CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Sept. 3, 2016) – After nearly pulling off an amazing comeback in their season opener Friday at the DeSales University Invitational, the Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors rallied to post their first volleyball victory of the season at the tournament here Saturday.
Rutgers-Camden bounced back from losing the first set against Gwynedd Mercy University, 26-24, to sweep the next three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-10 and 26-24.
In their second match of the day, against Washington College (MD), the Raptors won their opening set before dropping a 25-21, 20-25, 13-25, 21-25 decision.
The Scarlet Raptors, 1-3, will host Ursinus College Tuesday at 7 p.m. in their home opener.
Rutgers-Camden 3, Gwynedd Mercy 1
The Scarlet Raptors rallied from a first-set loss to post their first victory of the season, nailing down the win with a tense finish in the fourth and final set. Leading, 21-17, in the decisive set, the Raptors watched Gwynedd Mercy roar back to take leads of 23-21 and 24-22 before closing out the match with the final four points.

Myiah Gatling (Woolwich Township, NJ/Kingsway Regional) started the Raptors' final run, and freshman
Caitlynn Marcano (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) served out the final three points, which included two Gwynedd Mercy attack errors sandwiched around an ace.
Marcano finished with two aces, eight digs and a match-high 30 assists. Gatling had nine kills and a .467 hitting percentage, while freshman
Morgan Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) added nine kills, three assisted blocks and a .615 hitting percentage. She was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Jassmine Watson (Penns Grove, NJ/Clearview Regional) had a team-high 11 kills, while freshman
Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) added eight kills and two block assists. Senior
Caitlin Marchlowitz (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) collected six kills, two aces and seven digs and senior
Melanie Kaiser (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) had 13 digs and a match-high three aces.

Erin Thompson (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) notched a team-high 20 digs, sophomore
Kim Bryfogle (Collingswood, NJ/Paul VI) had 16 assists and freshman
Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) collected seven kills.
Washington 3, Rutgers-Camden 1
The Scarlet Raptors received 10 kills from Erskine and nine from
Jamie Mulligan, while Bryfogle and Marcano had 19 and 18 assists, respectively. Thompson paced the team with 23 digs, Kaiser had 12 and Marcano added nine. Marchlowitz collected eight digs, three aces and three kills, while
Morgan Mulligan notched three block assists, two aces and four kills.
