CAMDEN, N.J. (April 15, 2017) –The Ramapo College baseball team collected 23 hits, 13 walks and a hit batsman, while taking advantage of two Rutgers-Camden errors, as it scored 20 runs in a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep here Saturday.
 
Ramapo, 13-14 overall and 7-3 in the NJAC, won the first game, 9-3, before taking an 11-3 win in the nightcap. The sweep game Ramapo a 4-0 record in conference play over a three-day period this week after taking back-to-back wins against New Jersey City University Thursday and Friday.
 
For Rutgers-Camden, the sweep continued the Scarlet Raptors' slump, extending the team's losing streak to nine games. The host team fell to 10-17 overall and 1-9 in NJAC play.
 
Ramapo's big attack was paced by junior Austin Unglaub (Sparta, NJ/Sparta), who went 4-for-7 with two doubles, four runs and three RBIs in the doubleheader. Junior Bobby Shannon (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) was 4-for-9 with two doubles and two runs scored, while senior Rob DeAngelis (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) went 2-for-7 with two home runs and six RBIs, four of them coming on a grand slam in the sixth inning of the nightcap.
 
Rutgers-Camden received three hits apiece from seniors Jon Theckston (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Doug Carter Jr. (Union, NJ/Union). Freshman John Tedeschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) went 2-for-4 with two runs in the second game, while senior Zach Ellin (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) went 2-for-6 with one run and one RBI in the two games.
 
Rutgers-Camden is scheduled to play a non-conference home game Tuesday against Keystone College and host Stockton University Thursday in a NJAC game. Both games start at 3:30 p.m.
   
Rutgers-Camden scored all three of its runs in the second inning to grab a 3-0 lead before the Roadrunners took the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning. The Scarlet Raptors used a leadoff walk to Theckston to jump start their second inning, which included two hits, two sacrifices and an error. One run scored on a throwing error on a sacrifice by senior first baseman Frank Cerami IV (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley), one scored on a squeeze by freshman shortstop Nolan Gerald (Merchantville, NJ/Camden Catholic) and the final scored on a RBI double by sophomore second baseman Chris Jones (Washington Township, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep).
 
Ramapo sent 10 men to the plate in its big fourth inning, with six of them drawing walks, including RBI walks to Unglaub and DeAngelis. The only hit in the inning was a two-run single by sophomore third baseman Vincenzo Sita (Bayonne, NJ/St. Peter's Prep).
 
The Roadrunners added one run in the seventh and four more in the eighth, including a two-run home run by senior centerfielder Brandon Martinez (River Edge, NJ/River Dell).
 
Junior Jerry D'Andrea (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) worked eight innings of four-hit ball, walking three and striking out six to earn the win. All three runs off D'Andrea (2-3) were unearned. Sophomore Kyle Haag (Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning.
   
Haag entered the second game in the second inning following a walk and an injury to the Roadrunners' starter and he worked 5.1 innings, allowing eight hits, two earned runs and one walk. He struck out three and picked up the win, raising his record to 2-1.
 
Rutgers-Camden scored a first-inning run off Ramapo starter Cory Heitler (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) when Tedeschi led off with a single, stole second and scored on a single by Ellin.
 
Ramapo notched three runs in the third, which included a RBI double by Unglaub and a sacrifice fly by DeAngelis, but the Scarlet Raptors strung four straight singles together in a two-run third to tie the game, 3-3. Tedeschi opened the inning with a single and the Raptors loaded the bases on singles by Ellin and Theckston. Carter singled home one run and a RBI fielder's choice by Jones tied the game.
 
Ramapo took the lead in the fifth on a RBI infield single by Martinez. The Roadrunners blew the game open with a five-run sixth, capped by DeAngelis' grand slam to right field. Ramapo added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
