Box Score

CAMDEN, N.J. (April 18, 2017) –Keystone College pitchers Billy Nelson (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) and Pat Meagher (Wall Township, NJ/Wall) combined to hurl a four-hit shutout as the Giants defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 6-0, in a non-conference baseball game here Tuesday.

Keystone, which has appeared in both Division III national polls practically every week this season, improves to 19-8 with its sixth consecutive victory. The Giants received 12 votes toward the D3baseball.com Top 25 poll released Tuesday.

Rutgers-Camden, meanwhile falls to 10-18 with its 10th straight defeat. It is the Scarlet Raptors longest skid since dropping 11 straight games from April 5-19, 2008.

The Scarlet Raptors split pitching duties between five hurlers, with freshman Jaylen Paula (Jersey City, NJ/County Prep) earning the start and working the first three innings. Paula allowed three hits and one walk over his stint, but three unearned runs dropped his record to 0-2. He struck out one.

Keystone scored a run in the second inning on a passed ball and added two in the third, aided by a walk, a hit and an infield error. Sophomore second baseman Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, PA/Hazleton Area) had a two-run single in the inning.

The Giants, whose nickname comes from their famous alumni, New York Giant Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson, bunched a hit, a walk and an error in the seventh inning to produce two more runs, only one earned. They added another unearned tally in the eighth. Overall, four Raptor errors and a passed ball contributed to five of the six Keystone runs being unearned.

Keystone notched only six hits off of Rutgers-Camden pitching, including two by senior centerfielder Tony Hunter II (Savannah, GA/South Effingham).

Rutgers-Camden received a 2-for-4 performance from freshman centerfielder John Tedeschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial).

The Scarlet Raptors host Stockton University Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
