Chris Jones (Washington Township, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) drove home four runs as the Rutgers University-Camden baseball team defeated Kean University, 5-2, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Thursday.
Rutgers-Camden improves to 13-20 overall and 4-11 in the conference. Kean falls to 21-15 overall and 7-8 in the NJAC.
Scheidemann (4-2) lowered his season ERA to 2.69, while allowing only two earned runs and no walks. He struck out three.
The two teams traded runs over the first two innings, with Rutgers-Camden scoring in the first on a two-base infield throwing error and an RBI single by Jones. The Cougars tied the game in the second on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly by sophomore catcher

In the third, Rutgers-Camden struck for three runs with two outs. Senior catcher
Jon Theckston (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) singled and freshman designated hitter
Matthew Stoots (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) walked. Both players raced home on a triple by Jones, who scored moments later on a balk.
The Scarlet Raptors collected their final run in the fifth inning on a one-out single by Theckston, a walk to Stoots and a RBI double by Jones.
Kean scored its final run in the bottom of the fifth.
Jones finished the day going 3-for-4 with one run and four RBIs, while Theckston went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Theckston's two singles moved him up the program's career lists for hits and total bases. He moved into fifth place with 167 career hits, passing Jamie Schwantes (1994-97), who had 166. He also tied Nate Buchter (2004-07) for fifth place on the career list with 205 total bases.
Rutgers-Camden will host Kean Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the back end of the home-and-home NJAC series.
