READING, Penn. (Sept. 5, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team saw just about everything here Tuesday night in a long-delayed non-conference game at Alvernia University.
After downpours and lightning delayed the start for an hour and a first-half lightning delay caused another hour-long stoppage, the Scarlet Raptors saw plenty of offensive pressure wasted by one early Alvernia goal in a 1-0 defeat. The result leaves both teams at 1-2.
While Rutgers-Camden had the best of the early play, it was Alvernia that scored the lone goal on a left-footed strike to the netting by junior midfielder
Nick Sincavage (Palmyra, PA/Lower Dauphin) at 31:11. It was assisted by junior forward
Metuge Esong (Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake), who set up the play with a through ball into the box.
Rutgers-Camden out-shot Alvernia, 12-8, and saw Golden Wolves senior goalie
Zach Rider (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) make seven saves, including one to deny freshman
Skyler Diggs (Delran, NJ/Delran) late in the game. The Scarlet Raptors also hit the post once and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior midfielder
Vincenzo Masitti (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) had four shots for Rutgers-Camden, three on goal that were saved by Rider.
Junior goalie
James Brett (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) made three saves for the Scarlet Raptors.
