MAHWAH N.J. (Oct. 13, 2018) – The winning streak is over, but the unbeaten streak is still going strong for the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team.
The Scarlet Raptors traded first-half goals with Ramapo College here Saturday afternoon and the two teams played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in a New Jersey Athletic Conference heavyweight battle.
The Raptors, now 11-3-2 overall and second in the NJAC with a 4-1-1 mark, saw their eight-game winning streak snapped, but stretched their unbeaten string to nine games. The eight-game winning streak was the third longest in program history, with only a pair of 11-game strings – both in 2013 – being longer.
Ramapo, which received votes toward both the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 and the
D3soccer.com Top 25 polls this week, stands at 11-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in NJAC play.
Rutgers-Camden jumped on the scoreboard first, with junior midfielder
Patrick Grudnik notching his fifth goal of the season at 27:01. He was assisted by sophomore forward
Skyler Diggs.
Ramapo tied the game at 32:18 on a strike from Joseph Fala, his 17th of the season.
Neither team managed anything in the second half or overtime, despite the Roadrunners holding a 17-5 advantage in shots after halftime. They out-shot the Scarlet Raptors, 26-10, overall, but only nine shots went on goal as Raptor senior goalie
James Brett finished with eight saves while earning his 12th career tie. He is one behind David Cunningham (2003-06) for the most goalie ties in program history.
Ramapo keeper Joshua Schaffer had five saves.
The Roadrunners also held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Rutgers-Camden travels to Rowan University for another NJAC game Wednesday at 7 p.m.
