Ramapo outlasts Raptors in five-set NJAC match

CAMDEN, N.J. (Oct. 16, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team stretched its New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent to the limit for the second week in a row here Tuesday night, but the Scarlet Raptors dropped a five-set match against Ramapo College, 3-2.
 
Exactly one week after losing a five-set home match to NJAC rival Rowan University, the Scarlet Raptors were edged by the Roadrunners, 25-19, 17-25, 18-25, 25-21, 8-15.
 
The loss drops Rutgers-Camden to 9-13 overall and 0-6 in the NJAC, snapping a three-match non-conference winning streak. Ramapo improves to 9-18 overall and 2-5 in the NJAC as it improved to 19-2 in its all-time series against Rutgers-Camden.
 
Morgan Ridgway led the Roadrunners with 14 kills, while Hannah Frascella had 11. Kristina Semple notched 29 digs and Sara Correa collected 27 assists.
 
Rutgers-Camden received 14 kills from junior outside hitter Jordan Erskine, pictured above. Junior outside hitter Morgan Mulligan added 13 kills and 18 digs. Senior Myiah Gatling had eight kills, hit .278 and added a team-high four assisted blocks. Junior Jamie Mulligan collected seven kills and freshman Delaney Kolb added six.
 
Freshman setters Brinn Hassan and Kayla Benesz notched 25 and 24 assists, respectively.
 
Sophomore Ashley Newman paced the Scarlet Raptors with 20 digs. In addition to the 18 by Morgan Mulligan, the Raptors also received 14 digs from freshman Morgan Fox, 11 from freshman Haley Novak and 10 from Benesz.
 
Both Newman and freshman Ava D'Ambrosio had two service aces apiece.
 
Rutgers-Camden plays its final conference match of the season Thursday with a 7 p.m. start at Kean University.
