UNION, N.J. (Oct. 18, 2018) – The Kean University volleyball team collected 42 kills, including 17 by Vikki Stec, as it swept Rutgers University-Camden, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Thursday night.
Kean, which improves to 16-12 overall and 6-1 in the NJAC, won by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-16. The Cougars lead their all-time series against the Scarlet Raptors, 14-6, and have won their last eight head-to-head meetings.
The loss drops Rutgers-Camden to 9-14 overall and 0-7 in the NJAC.
Kean also received 34 assists from Brianna Calvano.
Rutgers-Camden was led by senior middle hitter
Myiah Gatling, who had a team-high seven kills and hit .462. Gatling,
pictured above, also had a pair of blocks, one solo and one assisted.
Junior outside hitter
Jamie Mulligan added five kills and four digs, while freshman outside hitter
Delaney Kolb also added five kills.
Freshmen setters
Brinn Hassan and
Kayla Benesz collected 10 and seven assists, respectively, with Hassan also adding six digs. Freshman defensive specialist
Haley Novak notched a team-high eight digs, while freshman defensive specialist/libero
Savannah Hayes added five digs.
Freshman middle hitter
Devyn Cobb collected a pair of assisted blocks.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday with a non-conference tri-match at Penn State-Harrisburg. The Scarlet Raptors face Misericordia University in their opener at 1 p.m. and battle the host team in a 3 p.m. match.
