CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 10, 2018) – The Haverford College men's basketball team roared back from a 35-25 halftime deficit and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 70-62, in the season opener for both teams here Saturday afternoon.
Haverford senior forward Joe Scibelli scored a game-high 29 points and added a high of 10 rebounds, including 17 points in the second half.
Haverford took the lead for good, 49-46, on a three-pointer by senior guard Kahlil Garnes with 8:39 left in the game, moments after a jumper by Scibelli put the Fords up, 46-44, and was answered by Raptor junior center
Roy Bond. Haverford stretched its lead to 11 points on three occasions after that, with the last coming at 66-55.
Rutgers-Camden built its 10-point halftime lead aided by senior guard
Trai Greer, who scored 13 of his team-high 18 points in the opening half. Sophomore guard
Ian McCarty (pictured above) finished with 13 points and senior forward
Chin Akwarandu added 10 for the Scarlet Raptors.
Garnes finished with 10 points for Haverford, while Jack Cork added nine.
Rutgers-Camden hosts Penn State-Schuylkill Tuesday at 8 p.m. in another non-conference game.
