Russell scores 14 in Raptors' loss at Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Penn. (Nov. 26, 2018) – Senior guard Darius Washington scored a game-high 23 points and senior forward Victor Pena had one of Eastern University's two double-doubles, while adding a game-high seven assists, as the Eagles defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 83-50, in a non-conference basketball game here Monday night.
 
Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-5, while Eastern improves to 4-1 with its second straight win.
 
The Eagles never trailed as they raced to a 39-18 halftime lead and opened up a margin as large as 37 points (77-40) late in the second half.
 
Pena collected 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with his high of seven assists. Junior forward Michael Bowlers added his own double-double with 15 points and 12 boards, while senior forward Marquise Peel collected 11 points.
 
Eastern shot 33-for-63 on field goal attempts (52.4 percent), while Rutgers-Camden was 17-for-52 (32.7). The Eagles also held a 47-26 advantage off the boards.
 
Rutgers-Camden received 14 points from sophomore guard Tyrell Russell, who broke his own career high of 11 set last Tuesday against Rowan University. Russell, pictured above, shot 5-for-10 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from three-point range.
 
Senior guard Trai Greer notched 12 points for the Scarlet Raptors, while freshman guard Adam Perry added seven. The Raptors had five rebounds apiece from sophomore guards Ian McCarthy and Kyle Goodson Jr. McCarthy added three steals to tie for game-high honors with Eastern's Washington and junior guard Clifton Adams.
 
Rutgers-Camden plays a New Jersey Athletic Conference game Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Stockton University.
