GLENSIDE, Penn. (Jan. 2, 2019) – The Arcadia University women's basketball team scored the first eight points of its non-conference game here Wednesday night and was never caught as they defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 84-71.
The Knights improved to 6-7 to snap a two-game losing streak in Florida on Dec. 20 and 21, which included a total of three overtime periods. The Scarlet Raptors, who hadn't played since Dec. 12 due to final exams and the semester break, fell to 6-5.
After Arcadia opened the game with the first eight points, the Scarlet Raptors received field goals by junior guard

Ariel Robinson to cut the margin to 8-4. The Knights followed with the next six points before Williams broke the run with a layup. Trailing, 14-6, the Scarlet Raptors watched the Knights score eight of the next 12 points to grab a 22-10 advantage on their way to a 24-15 lead after one quarter. Junior guard/forward Sydney Cyr had seven of those points, while junior Courtney Hoffman added six, with both shooting 3-for-4 from the floor.
For Rutgers-Camden, Robinson scored seven first-quarter points and Williams added six.
The Knights opened up a 29-17 lead early in the second half before Rutgers-Camden went on a 7-2 run, cutting the gap to 31-24. Arcadia, however, scored the next six points on its way to a 41-29 halftime advantage. Cyr had 10 first-half points for the Knights, while Hoffman and freshman guard Julia Makowski added eight apiece. Makowski and senior forward Camille Menns both hauled down eight rebounds in the opening half as Arcadia held a 31-13 advantage off the boards.

Gabby Greene had eight first-half points for Rutgers-Camden, while Robinson had seven points and a team-high five boards.
The Knights grabbed a 62-48 lead after three quarters but, after Makowski opened the fourth quarter with a pair of foul shots, the Scarlet Raptors went on a nine-point run to slice their deficit to 64-57. Greene sparked the run with a three-pointers and Williams, Robinson and freshman guard
Wykira Johnson-Kelly each added a field goal. Still down by seven, at 68-61 with 5:45 remaining, the Raptors watched Arcadia scored the next six points to put their deficit back into double digits (74-61) as the Knights closed out the victory.
Makowski paced the winners with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Cyr scored 15 and junior guard Taylor Dunn added 13. Menns added 10 rebounds and eight points, while Arcadia received nine points apiece from sophomore guard/forward Taylor Fritz and junior guard Asya Alba.

pictured above, added a game-high four assists.
Williams paced the Raptor attack with a game-high 24 points. Greene netted 16, Robinson scored 13 and Johnson-Kelly added 11. Robinson paced the Raptors with seven rebounds, while Williams added six and Johnson-Kelly grabbed five.
Greene's 16 points vaulted her over the 1,100 milestone for her career, hiking her total to 1,105. She is eight points shy of tying Nelly Cruz (1988-91) for 11th place on the all-time Rutgers-Camden scoring list. Greene also added two steals to lift her career mark to 186, tying Krystal Jankowski (2004-08) for sixth in program history.
Arcadia shot 30-for-66 from the floor (45.5 percent), while Rutgers-Camden shot 30-for-76 (39.5). The Knights held a 58-28 advantage off the boards.
Rutgers-Camden returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference action with its next game. The Scarlet Raptors play Saturday in a 6 p.m. contest at Rutgers-Newark.
