CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 26, 2019) – Kean University senior Micah Kerr dominated the paint with a double-double of 42 points and 16 rebounds as he powered the Cougars over Rutgers University-Camden, 86-64, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference men's basketball game here Saturday afternoon.
The victory lifted the Cougars to 4-15 overall, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 2-18. Kean stands at 2-10 in NJAC play and Rutgers-Camden is 2-11 after splitting the season series with road victories. The Raptors beat the Cougars, 70-68, at Kean on Dec. 8.
Kean now leads the all-time series, 58-25.
Kerr, a forward/center, collected 22 points and seven rebounds as Kean took a 37-30 halftime lead, then notched another 20 points and nine boards in the second half. He finished the day shooting 15-for-24 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from three-point range, and went 10-for-12 from the foul line.
Freshman guard Jailen Jamison added 18 points and four assists for the Cougars, while freshman guard Jared Latane collected 11 points. Latane and senior guard/forward Jodrell Thompson both dished off five assists, tying Rutgers-Camden senior guard
Trai Greer for game-high honors.
Led by Kerr and freshman forward/center Nate Lyles, who had 11 rebounds, the Cougars won the battle of the boards, 42-24.
Rutgers-Camden placed three players in double figures in the scoring column, led by sophomore guard
Ian McCarthy, who tallied 15 points. Sophomore guard
Kyle Goodson Jr., pictured above, scored 13 points and had a team-high eight rebounds. He shot 5-for-6 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the foul line.
Greer collected 12 points, in addition to tying for game-high assist honors with five.
Overall, Kean shot 32-for-60 from the floor (53.3 percent), including 12-for-22 (54.5) from three-point range. They were 10-for-12 (83.3) from the line, with all of their foul shots by Kerr.
Rutgers-Camden shot 25-for-58 (43.1) from the floor overall, including 7-for-24 (29.2) from three-point range. The Raptors were 7-for-14 (50.0) from three-point range.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action Wednesday with an 8 p.m. game at The College of New Jersey.
