EWING, N.J. (Jan. 30, 2019) – The College of New Jersey's junior guard Randy Walko hit a jumper and a three-pointer to open the scoring, sparking the Lions on an 11-0 run to start the game, and the TCNJ men's basketball team went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 92-65, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
The Lions, who improve to 12-9 overall and 8-6 in the NJAC, have won their last nine games against the Scarlet Raptors and lead the all-time series, 67-18.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 2-19 overall and 2-12 in the NJAC with its seventh straight loss.
Walko's five points, along with a trey from junior forward Mike Walley, helped TCNJ establish its 11-0 lead 6:21 into the game. By halftime, the Lions held a 48-30 advantage, with Walko and sophomore center Travis Jocelyn scoring 11 points apiece, while junior forward Ryan Jensen had nine points and eight rebounds.
Freshman guard
Adam Perry accounted for 17 of the Scarlet Raptors' 30 points in the opening half, already passing his career high of 13 points, accomplished twice in his rookie season. Perry,
pictured above, raised his new career high to 22 points by the end of the game, aided by 6-for-11 shooting from the floor, including 5-for-6 from three-point range. He shot 5-for-5 from the foul line.
TCNJ finished with four players in double digits offensively, as Jensen notched 21 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Walko finished with 16 points, junior guard Niall Carpenter canned 15 and Jocelyn added 14. Sophomore guard P.J. Ringel had a game-high seven assists.
In addition to Perry, junior guard
Trai Greer collected 18 points and led the Scarlet Raptors with eight rebounds and five assists.
TCNJ held a 52-32 advantage off the boards and shot 33-for-76 (43.4 percent) from the floor. Rutgers-Camden shot 22-for-64 (34.4) from the floor.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action Saturday when it hosts Rutgers-Newark at 3 p.m.
