GLASSBORO, N.J. (Oct. 17, 2019) – Over the years, the Rowan University women's soccer team has been trouble for Rutgers University-Camden, but the Scarlet Raptors gave the Profs all they could handle here Thursday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
It wasn't until the 63rd minute that Rowan scored the game's only goal in an evenly-played contest and escaped with a 1-0 conference victory.
The win lifts Rowan to 7-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
Although the Profs now lead the all-time series, 18-0-3, Thursday's game was as close as it gets. After playing to a scoreless tie with Rowan last season, the Raptors had their chances to beat the Profs on their own pitch. Rowan held slim advantages of 11-10 in shots and 3-1 in corner kicks, but the Scarlet Raptors put seven shots on goal to Rowan's five. Junior forward
Meghan Wachira was the biggest threat for the Scarlet Raptors, taking eight shots, including five on goal.
Rowan finally broke the deadlock at 62:59 on a goal by junior Aidan Sheehan, assisted by sophomore Bethany Sansone.
Raptor sophomore goalie
Natalie Eberhardt made four saves, while Rowan sophomore keeper Bristol Pizzuto had six saves and also was aided by a backsave.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Ramapo College.
