Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Destin scores 33 as Raptors give Pradia first coaching win

GLENSIDE, Penn. (Nov. 10, 2019) – Senior forward Isaac Destin scored a career-high 33 points to spark the Rutgers University-Camden men's basketball team to an 89-83 victory over Rosemont College in the consolation game of the Arcadia Tip-Off Tournament here Sunday.

The win evened the Scarlet Raptors' record at 1-1 and gave first-year Head Coach Stuart Pradia his first victory at Rutgers-Camden.

Entering the game, the Scarlet Raptors had been 1-5 against Rosemont, playing sporadically over the last 10 years. The Raptor win snapped a two-game winning streak by the Ravens and was only their second win over Rosemont in that time, with the first coming on November 19, 2014 by a 92-90 score in Camden.

Trailing, 17-10, midway through the first half, the Scarlet Raptors went on a 33-17 run the rest of the half. The Raptors took the lead for good, 29-27, on a three-pointer by junior guard Victor Nyanway with 5:17 remaining before the break. They made it 43-34 at halftime when Destin scored on a layup with two seconds remaining, giving him 17 points at halftime.

Rutgers-Camden opened its last to as many as 21 points, 63-42, with 14:11 remaining in the game on a layup by freshman forward Dylan Trow. By the time there was only 1:39 remaining in the game, however, Rosemont had sliced its deficit to only five points, 81-76, after a layup by senior guard Perry Belcher. After the Scarlet Raptors padded their lead to 85-76 with 52 seconds remaining, the Ravens whittled the margin down to four, 87-83, with 16 seconds left before Destin closed the game with a layup with three seconds remaining. That field goal gave Destin 33 points for the game, passing his previous career high of 32 set against Kean University, Jan. 6, 2018.

Destin shot a torrid 14-for-17 from the floor, while adding 12 rebounds for a double-double. Sophomore forward Jake Petrik notched 14 points for the Scarlet Raptors, while Nyanway and junior guard Arian Azemi both added 12 points.

Azemi also had eight rebounds and a game-high 10 assists, while junior forward Ian McCarthy collected seven rebounds and six points and Petrik added six boards.

Rosemont received 23 points from junior forward Corey McGarry, while senior guard Nick Gemmell notched 14 and Belcher added 13.

Rutgers-Camden shot 35-fot-60 (58.3 percent) from the floor, while Rosemont was 33-for-74 (44.6). The Scarlet Raptors held a 38-36 edge off the boards.

Rutgers-Camden plays its home opener Wednesday night when it entertains John Jay College in a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
