Raptor men close season with loss at Montclair State

CAMDEN, N.J. (Feb. 13, 2019) – The Montclair State University men's basketball team scored the first nine points of the game, built a 35-7 halftime lead and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 73-37, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
 
Montclair State closes the regular-season with a 16-9 record overall and an 11-7 mark in the NJAC before moving on to the conference playoffs, which begin Saturday. Rutgers-Camden closes its season with a 2-23 record overall, a 2-16 mark in the NJAC and 11 consecutive losses.
 
The Red Hawks lead the all-time series, 55-10, over the Scarlet Raptors and have won 12 of the last 13 head-to-head meetings.
 
Montclair State put the game away early, scoring the first nine points and later running off a pair of 12-point streaks in the opening half. By halftime, the Red Hawks were shooting 15-for-31 (48.4 percent) from the floor, while the Scarlet Raptors were 3-for-28 (10.7).
 
The home team placed 12 players in the scoring column on the night, while shooting 30-for-69 (43.5) from the floor and holding a 61-22 advantage in rebounds.
 
Sophomore guard/forward Irving Callender IV notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Senior forward/center Jordan Roberson was one point shy of a double-double, finishing with 12 rebounds and nine points. Sophomore guard Joseph Radi scored nine of his 12 points in the opening half, while senior forward Jahvan Rosbia finished his night with 10 points.
 
Rutgers-Camden shot 14-for-55 (25.5) from the floor overall, including 3-for-24 (12.5) from three-point range.
 
Junior guard Trai Greer, pictured above, paced the Scarlet Raptors with 13 points and five steals. Greer finished his first season at Rutgers-Camden leading the team in scoring (14.4 ppg), rebounding (5.4 rpg), assists (90) and steals (37).
