Rutgers-Camden lacrosse toppled at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Penn. (April 16, 2019) – Immaculata University junior Layne Kennedy scored five goals, raising her career mark to a new program record of 179, as the Mighty Macs defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 16-11, in a non-conference lacrosse game here Tuesday.
 
The loss was the fourth straight for Rutgers-Camden, which falls to 4-7. Immaculata improves to 6-8.
 
The two teams split the first eight goals before the Mighty Macs took the lead for good, 5-4, on a tally by Bailey Krewson with 12:55 remaining in the first half. That goal sparked a three-goal run by Immaculata on its way to a 9-6 halftime lead.
 
The Scarlet Raptors managed to cut their deficit to two goals on four occasions in the second half (9-7, 10-8, 11-9 and 14-10) before Immaculata escaped with the win.
 
In addition to five goals by Kennedy, sophomore Maura Murray notched four goals and added four assists to finish the day with eight points for Immaculata. Krewson and Anna Didonato both had t3wo goals and one assists for the Mighty Macs, while Kayla Cadden added two goals.  Krewson also had a team-high five ground balls and five caused turnovers, while Didonato notched six draw controls.
 
Immaculata outshot Rutgers-Camden, 42-30. Emily Schumann made eight saves for the home team, while sophomore Brittany Watson had 15 saves for the Scarlet Raptors.
 
Rutgers-Camden received four goals from freshman Jazmin Torres, pictured above, while freshman Carly Gregg added three goals. Both freshman Claire Gailliout and senior Cara Racobaldo collected two goals and one assist.
 
Junior defender Kacie Walton notched six ground balls and three caused turnovers, while freshman Breeanna Stauss had a team-high four caused turnovers. Racobaldo led the club with six draw controls, while Torres added four.
 
The Scarlet Raptors return home Thursday for a 4 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference game against Stockton University.
