CAMDEN, N.J. (April 9, 2019) – There's a reason why The College of New Jersey lacrosse team has won the last eight New Jersey Athletic Conference titles and is annually among the contenders for the Div. III national championship.
The Lions are very good and they proved it here today, rolling past Rutgers-Camden, 20-2, in the Scarlet Raptors' first NJAC game of the season.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC. TCNJ, ranked 16th nationally, improves to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC. Almost all the Lions' losses have come against other nationally-ranked teams.
The Lions scored the game's first 13 goals before freshman
Carly Gregg put the Scarlet Raptors on the scoreboard with 33 seconds left in the first half. It was the first goal Rutgers-Camden has scored against TCNJ since 2015, having been blanked by the Lions for the past three seasons. TCNJ has won all 10 of its meetings against Rutgers-Camden, with the closest margins of victory being 14 goals, twice.
Rutgers-Camden added its second goal with 11:20 gone in the second half, scoring on a free position shot by senior
Cara Racobaldo to make the score 17-2. It was the first time since 2014 that Rutgers-Camden has scored two goals against the Lions and only the third time ever that Rutgers-Camden has had that many. The Raptors' all-time record for goals against TCNJ came in a 17-3 loss on April 17, 2012.
TCNJ out-shot Rutgers-Camden, 33-6, including 30 shots on goal as Raptor sophomore keeper
Brittany Watson made 10 saves. The combination of goalies Miranda Chrone and Alexa Natalicchio made four saves for the Lions.
Racobaldo added a game-high six draw controls for the Scarlet Raptors.
TCNJ has seven players score multiple goals, including three apiece by Allie Gorman, Kasey Donoghue and Olivia Cleale. Cleale also added eight assists for 11 points.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Thursday when it entertains Bryn Mawr College in a 7 p.m. non-conference game. The Scarlet Raptors will celebrate Senior Night to honor Racobaldo, their lone senior.
