CAMDEN, N.J. (April 18, 2021) – With the pandemic schedule limiting Rutgers University-Camden to only New Jersey Athletic Conference action this spring, the Scarlet Raptors resumed their limited men's tennis slate here Sunday after a three-week layoff.
It didn't help that the return to action came against one of the perennially-strong teams in the conference.
The College of New Jersey swept past Rutgers-Camden, 9-0, in NJAC action as the Scarlet Raptors played their first match since March 26. Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-2 overall and in the NJAC, while TCNJ improves to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Only two Scarlet Raptors took points in both sets as junior
Jair Norman and freshman
Gavin Fernan lost 6-1, 6-1 at third and fourth singles, respectively. Junior
Jose Vargas dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at fifth singles. Freshmen
Charles Dalisay and
Andrew Yuen, along with junior
Shariq Khan dropped 6-0, 6-0 decisions at first, second and sixth singles, respectively.
Dalisay and Yuen lost at first doubles, 8-3. Norman and Khan teamed at second doubles and Vargas and Fernan combined at third doubles, with both combinations losing 8-2 matches.
With this season's action limited to only NJAC competition, the Scarlet Raptors only have three spring matches scheduled before the NJAC playoffs. Their final regular-season match will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ramapo College.
