Raptors' track program competes at Lions Invitational

EWING, NJ (April 30, 2022) – The Rutgers University-Camden track and field team turned in several strong performances Friday and Saturday at the Lions Invitational, held at The College of New Jersey.
 
The women's stellar duo of throwers, senior Emily Hilt and sophomore Alexis Marini, were two of the three Scarlet Raptors to compete in the limited Friday competition. In the 33-athlete field of the women's hammer throw, Hilt finished second (36.22 meters) and Marini placed ninth (34.85 meters).
 
On the men's side Friday, junior Jason Hyland finished sixth of 11 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:44.43.
 
Hilt and Marini continued their two-day dominance on Saturday, as Hilt finished eighth of 31 in the discus throw (36.22 meters) and Marini was 11th (34.85 meters). They also competed in the 40-athlete field of the shot put, with Hilt placing seventh (12.23 meters) and Marini finishing 19th (10.53 meters). Two other Raptors, freshman Karina Correa and junior Bianca Cortes competed in the shot put, with Correa finishing 39th (8.01 meters) and Cortes finishing 40th (7.01 meters).
 
On the men's side, freshman Amir Lindor finished 29th of 31 in the men's shot put (10.55 meters).
 
The Scarlet Raptor's received a strong performance in the men's pole vault as freshman Ken Komatsu placed sixth (4.25 meters) out of 17 athletes. His PR in the event came close to the Rutgers-Camden record of 4.27 meters.
 
The Rutgers-Camden women had a pair of freshmen in the 30-woman field of the long jump, with Alyson Petro finishing 27th (4.40 meters) and Evelyn Macias placing 30th (4.28 meters). Petro also finished 21st of 30 in the women's 100-meter hurdles (18.24), while freshman Hannah Crowley placed 25th (19.51).
 
In the 100-meter dash, the Scarlet Raptors fielded five athletes in the 77-man field, with freshman Devin Bennett finishing 43rd (11.86), junior Nate Harris placing 59th (12.51), sophomore Oladayo Olatubosun finishing 61st (12.60), freshman Roberto Equizabal finishing 76th (14.95) and freshman Almuatasam Asseadi finishing 77th ((15.43). Bennett also finished 41st of 59 in the men's 200-meter dash (24.09).
 
In the 41-women's field for the 100-meter dash, freshman Danaijah Boyce placed 32nd (13.93).
 
Junior Andrew Barnhardt finished 54th out of 75 in the men's 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:20.01.
 
Rutgers-Camden will compete in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 7-8 at The College of New Jersey.
