CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 17, 2022) – Freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Brickner earned a shutout in his first collegiate start and a pair of Scarlet Raptors scored their first career goals as the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team defeated Wilkes University, 2-0, in a non-conference game here Saturday afternoon.
Rutgers-Camden evened its record at 3-3-1, while Wilkes fell to 2-3-1.
Despite a 9-3 advantage in shots for the Raptors in the opening half, the game was scoreless until the 55th minute when sophomore
Pedro Jovel-Castro displayed some fancy footwork to cross a pass to the far top left of the box for sophomore
Ethan Dreyer. Dreyer drilled a laser from the left side into the top right corner for his first career goal and what proved to be his first game-winning goal. His tally came at 54:40.
Rutgers-Camden tacked on an insurance goal in the 83rd minute after Wilkes goalie Nick Kinzler made a save on a shot by Raptor freshman
Kevin Rourke. The Colonels didn't clear the ball from the box and, in the scramble, freshman
Joe Lodise finished for his first career goal.
Rutgers-Camden finished with a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 9-5 margin in corner kicks. Brickner, who entered the game with only 12:43 played as a sub in one appearance, made three saves in his shutout, including two in the first half. Kinzler finished with eight saves.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Monday with a 4 p.m. non-conference game at Alvernia University.
