UNION, N.J. (Oct. 7, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden and Kean University men's soccer teams both headed into their showdown here Saturday afternoon with undefeated records in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, but it was the home team that left the game with that mark intact.
Kean senior forward Sadeikl Roberts scored a goal in each half as the Cougars defeated the Scarlet Raptors, 2-0, in a big NJAC battle.
Kean, which has received votes the past two weeks toward the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, improved to 8-0-4 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. Rutgers-Camden fell to 8-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC.
Roberts tallied his first goal of the game, and his fifth of the season, at 20:16 off an assist from sophomore defender Daniel Nigro. Roberts struck again shortly after halftime, scoring only 2:16 into the second half. He was assisted by junior forward Donte East and junior back Kelvin Gyamfi.
Both teams managed only four shots on goal, while Kean held the overall edge in shots, 18-11. Rutgers-Camden held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Raptor junior goalie
Sean Boen made two saves, while Kean junior keeper Dominic Ridge earned the shutout with four saves.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it hosts NJAC rival Rowan University, which has been ranked as high as 17th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 throughout the season.
