ABINGTON, Penn. (Nov. 16, 2023) – Senior guard/forward Angela Sanders scored 27 points and the Penn State-Abington women's basketball team used first-half runs of 10 and 12 points as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 80-57, in a non-conference game here Thursday night.
It was the first win of the season for the Nittany Lions, who improved to 1-3, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 0-4.
After the teams were tied for the fifth time, at 9-9, Rutgers-Camden went on a five-point run to take its biggest lead of the night, 14-9. Penn State-Abington countered with a 10-point run, taking the lead at 15-14 on the second consecutive trey by freshman guard/forward Amirah Hackney.
The Scarlet Raptors closed their gap to 21-19 by the end of the first quarter and then took their final lead, 22-21, to open the second quarter on a three-pointer by freshman guard
Bonnie Sellers. The Nittany Lions bounced right back as a layup by freshman guard Amina Reid gave them a 23-22 lead, sparking a 12-point run that opened up the game.
By halftime, Abington held a 40-32 lead and the Lions led, 62-43, after three quarters. Their biggest leads of 23 points came in the fourth quarter at 71-48 and the final score.
The home team placed five players in double-digits in the scoring column, led by Sanders' 27 points. She added a game-high 16 rebounds for a double-double. Hackney netted 14 points, freshman guard/forward Sereniti Minor scored 13, Reid canned 12 and junior guard Kaya Mobley added 11.
Reid notched six assists, while Sanders and Hackney had five apiece. Hackney also collected five steals.

A'yanna Morton shared the team rebounding lead with eight apiece, while Brown and Sellers both added seven.
Morton had a team-leading five assists.
Abington shot 34-for-81 from the floor (42.0 percent), while Rutgers-Camden went 20-for-57 (35.1). The Scarlet Raptors had a 45-41 edge off the boards, but also made 21 turnovers, while the Lions made only seven.
The Scarlet Raptors are idle until Tuesday, when they open their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule with a 5 p.m. game at The College of New Jersey.
