Elliott named NJAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
CAMDEN, N.J. (Dec. 18, 2023) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman guard/forward
Keion Elliott turned in a stellar performance during the Scarlet Raptors' lone game on the schedule last week. As a result, he was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week today.
Elliott set career highs in points (13), rebounds (3) and assists (3) as the Scarlet Raptors defeated NJAC rival Kean University, 71-60, in Camden on December 13. He also added one steal in the game.
Elliott shot 4-for-5 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from three-point range, and went 3-for-4 from the foul line. One of his treys, late in the game, gave Rutgers-Camden its first lead of the night at 57-55, a lead the Scarlet Raptors held the rest of the way.
The win was the Raptors' first over Kean since Feb. 1, 2020, when Rutgers-Camden won by a 79-75 score in Union, New Jersey.
A three-year basketball letterman at Egg Harbor Township High School, who is a Computer Science major at Rutgers-Camden, Elliott has appeared in 10 games this season for the Scarlet Raptors, averaging 3.8 points and 0.6 rebounds. He has added 11 assists, nine steals and three blocked shots.
Elliott is the second Scarlet Raptor to earn NJAC men's basketball weekly honors this season. Sophomore forward
Cameron Downs was named the NJAC Player of the Week on December 4.
In addition to his NJAC honor, Elliott was named Rutgers-Camden's Raptor of the Week on Monday.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action on Dec. 30 when it plays a 1 p.m. non-conference game at Delaware Valley University.
