Raptors post strong performances at Ursinus Bow-Tie Invitational
COLLEGEVILLE, Penn. (Dec. 8, 2023) – Freshman
Oluwamayowakun Ojutalayo finished first in the men's 200-meter dash and in the unseeded race of the 60-meter dash to lead a strong Rutgers University-Camden performance as the Scarlet Raptors competed in the Bow-Tie Invitational Friday at Ursinus College.
Ojutalayo led the field of 61 athletes in the men's 200-meter dash in a time of 22.94, while freshman
Robert Bayard was 13th (23.93) in the event that featured six Scarlet Raptor runners. Ojutalayo also was among five Raptors in the 39-man field of the men's unseeded 60-meter dash, finishing first (7.05). Sophomore
Nadir Paige finished fourth (7.16) in that event.

Walter Pierce qualified for the finals in their track events, as Bayard finished second of 23 athletes in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash (7.15) and placed fifth in the eight-man finals (7.20). Diaz and Pierce finished second (9.02) and third (9.50) in the 14-athlete preliminaries for the 60-meter hurdles. Diaz finished third (8.92) in the eight-man finals, while Pierce placed fifth (9.40).
Sophomore
Isabella Bordon led the Raptor women in the 800-meter run, finishing 11th out of 32 runners in a time of 2:38.37. She also placed 15th out of 26 athletes in the mile run with a time of 6:05.93.
In the 28-athlete field of the women's unseeded 60-meter dash, Rutgers-Camden had six runners competing, led by freshman
Sydnie Marshall, who finished 13th (9.19).
The Scarlet Raptors ran seven athletes in the 64-woman field of the 200-meter dash, with freshman
Lauren Carter leading the way with a 23rd-place finish (28.58), while Marshall placed 38th (30.02). Carter also placed 18th of 32 in the women's long jump with a distance of 4.64 meters, while the men's 26-athlete field of long jumpers saw sophomore
Brandon Butts finish 13th (5.89 meters).
In the throwing events, a pair of freshmen –
Aaron Le and
Kaitlyn Novak – led the team in both the weight throw and the shot put. Le was 12th of 17 in the men's weight throw (10.51 meters) and 20th of 31 in the shot put (10.24 meters). Novak placed 13th of 33 in the women's shot put (9.18 meters) and 18th of 21 in the weight throw (7.74 meters). Junior
Francis Hill finished 20th in the women's shot put (8.41 meters).
The women's 4x400 relay team posted a 4:40.73 clocking to place fifth of 13 squads behind a team of Carter, Bordon, Marshall and senior
Carly Malia. The men had a pair of teams in the 14-team field of the 4x400 relay, with the A team finishing ninth (3:46.58). The team members included Ojutalayo, Bayard, Diaz and Paige.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action in the new year when it competes at the New York Armory on Jan. 10 in the Lions Indoor Invitational.
