NEWARK, N.J. (Dec. 9, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team broke a 17-17 tie on a pair of foul shots late in the first half and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 75-59, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday night.
The Scarlet Raiders took the lead for good on a pair of foul shots by junior guard Pascal Dodard with 5:33 left in the first half, sparking a 9-1 run that gave Newark a 26-18 lead. The home team led, 34-24, at halftime and, although the Scarlet Raptors cut their gap to 34-28 with the first four points of the second half, that was the closest they came the rest of the way.
The victory lifted Newark to 5-5 overall and 2-3 in NJAC play, while Camden fell to 4-6 and 1-4. Newark has won 10 straight games against Camden and holds a 61-36 lead in the all-time series.
Junior guard Levi Holton paced the Scarlet Raiders with 23 points, shooting 7-for-11 from the floor, including 1-for-1 from three-point range, and hitting eight of his 10 foul shots. Junior forward Travis Miles added 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds, while grad student forward Jamir Patterson netted 11 points.
Rutgers-Camden received 18 points, aided by 10-for-11 shooting from the foul line, and six rebounds from sophomore forward

Newark shot 21-for-48 from the floor (43.8 percent), while Camden went 16-for-47 (34.0). The Scarlet Raiders also held a 41-30 advantage off the boards and committed six fewer turnovers (24-18) than the Scarlet Raptors.
Rutgers-Camden plays another NJAC game Wednesday when it hosts Kean University at 8 p.m.
