AUBURNDALE, Florida (March 17, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden softball team ended its trip to the PFX Spring Games here Friday with a pair of losses against Ohio Northern University and Hamilton College.
The Scarlet Raptors lost their opening game of the day, 5-2, against Ohio Northern before falling to Hamilton, 8-4.
The Scarlet Raptors finished their 10-game Florida trip losing eight games to drop their record to 2-10. They return home to host Gwynedd Mercy University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader Monday.
Ohio Northern 5, Rutgers-Camden 2
The Polar Bears (Ada, Ohio) rode the five-hit pitching of senor Allie Bican as they raised their record to 5-4. Bican (2-3) allowed two runs, only one earned, and three walks, while striking out 11.
Senior
Rachel White (0-4) took the loss for the Scarlet Raptors, working 5.1 innings and allowing eight hits and five runs, four of them earned. She walked three and struck out three.
Ohio Northern scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning when its leadoff batter reached on an error and later scored on a two-out error.
The Polar Bears added a run on two hits in the second inning and plated two more runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Bican.
Rutgers-Camden broke Bican's shutout bid in the bottom of the fifth when freshman designated player
Ava Maloof drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second by junior shortstop
Danielle Quinones. She scored on a two-out single by senior right fielder
Jayden Hunter.
The Raptors added an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore left fielder
Emily Dubiago singled and eventually scored on a two-out error.
Hunter went 2-for-4 with one RBI to lead Rutgers-Camden. Sophomore designated player Callie Rosser and senior center fielder Lauren Walls both had two hits for Ohio Northern. Bican went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Hamilton 8, Rutgers-Camden 4
The Continentals (Clinton, New York) broke open a 4-4 game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as they raised their record to 4-3. The inning featured three hits and two errors, with two of the runs being unearned off of sophomore pitcher
Lindsey Rodzon (2-6). Sophomore designated player Emma Tansky doubled home the tie-breaking run.
Rodzon hurled a six-inning complete game, allowing only six hits and one walk, while striking out five. Four of the eight runs she allowed were unearned as Rutgers-Camden made seven infield errors behind her.
After Hamilton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Rutgers-Camden scored twice in the second, with RBIs coming on a ground out by Maloof and a single by Quinones.
The Continentals regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third and both teams scored an unearned run in the fourth inning. Rutgers-Camden tied the game in the fifth on another unearned run.
Quinones went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI to lead the six-hit Scarlet Raptor attack. Senior left fielder Katlynn McGivney paced Hamilton's attack with a 2-for-4 game, while scoring two runs.
Junior pitcher Natalie Beebe (1-2) picked up the win with a six-hitter, allowing one walk and four runs, with only two being earned. She struck out three.
