DELHI, N.Y. (March 31, 2023) – The SUNY-Oneonta men's tennis team swept Rutgers University-Camden, 9-0, here Friday as the two teams opened up their New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule.
Rutgers-Camden, in its first match of the spring semester, falls to 0-4 counting its three fall matches. Oneonta improves to 4-7.
The Red Dragons swept the three doubles matches to open the match, as they won 8-0 at first and third doubles and 8-2 at second doubles. At first doubles, the Raptors teamed junior
Edward McWilliams Jr. and sophomore
Sean Boen, while freshmen
Jojo Nguyen and
Christopher Abacan combined at second doubles. In the third spot, Rutgers-Camden featured senior
Hani Qureshi and junior
Matthew Tepfer.
McWilliams lost at first singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Nguyen lost 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. Abacan was beaten 6-0, 6-0 at third singles, Qureshi lost 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles, Boen lost at fifth singles (6-1, 6-1) and Tepfer was defeated in the sixth spot (6-2, 6-2).
The Scarlet Raptors were supposed to play a non-conference match at Lehman College Saturday on their way back from Oneonta, but that match has been postponed, with no makeup date determined. Rutgers-Camden will host Neumann University Sunday at 12 p.m.
