MEDFORD, N.J. (April 15, 2023) – Rutgers University-Camden junior
Sarah Ahrens won her match at first singles, but Stockton University won the remaining eight matches as it defeated the Scarlet Raptors, 8-1, in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's tennis action here Saturday.
The match, originally scheduled to be played at Rutgers-Camden Community Park, was switched to the indoor Arrowhead Tennis Club in Medford due to the forecast.
Stockton improves to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 3-8 and 0-3.
Stockton is 12-1 against Rutgers-Camden since the Scarlet Raptors re-started their tennis program in 2011.
Stockton swept all three doubles matches, including 8-0 at both first doubles against Ahrens and senior
Laurel DiStefano and at third doubles against the team of freshman
Ashton Sirko and senior
Lindsay Hernandez. At second doubles, the Raptors' team of junior
Samantha Hoban and freshman
Katie Moore lost an 8-2 decision.
Ahrens posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at first singles, but Hoban dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at second singles and Moore lost, 6-1, 6-1, at third singles. In the fourth spot, DiStefano was defeated, 8-2, while Sirko lost at fifth singles, 8-3, and Hernandez was defeated in the sixth flight, 8-1.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Sunday when it travels to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania for a tri-match against King's College and Elizabethtown College.
