CAMDEN, N.J. (April 17, 2023) – Junior Sarah Ahrens has been an impact player for the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team ever since she joined the program from Camden County College.

Ahrens added another honor to her career today when the New Jersey Athletic Conference named her the Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

During her first year at Rutgers-Camden in 2021-22, Ahrens was named to All-NJAC First Team Singles, captured NJAC Player of the Week on March 28, 2022, and was a two-time Rutgers-Camden Raptor of the Week. She also earned her second Raptor of the Week honor for the 2022-23 scholastic year today, joining one she won last fall.

The Scarlet Raptors' top singles player who also plays on the first doubles team, Ahrens posted a 4-0 singles record and a 3-1 doubles mark while helping Rutgers-Camden post a 3-1 record in four matches last week. Among her wins in singles was a 6-2, 6-1 victory against NJAC rival Stockton University, the Raptors' lone win in an 8-1 loss against the Ospreys.

On Sunday, Ahrens posted four victories during a tri-match at King's College, which included Elizabethtown College. She won both of her matches at first singles by 6-0, 6-0 scores. She also teamed with Laurel DiStefano for a pair of victories at first doubles.

Although she isn't even finished yet with her second season at Rutgers-Camden, Ahrens already is tied for ninth in career singles victories (21), ranks seventh in career doubles wins (22) and is seventh in total career wins (43).

A Childhood Studies major, Ahrens earned NJAC Academic Honorable Mention for the 2021-22 scholastic year and has been a Dean's List student and a member of the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Director's Honor Roll for all three of her full semesters on campus. She posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in each semester.
