Moore captures NJAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
CAMDEN, N.J. (April 24, 2023) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman
Katie Moore has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week following a stellar week against three NJAC opponents.
Moore, who plays third singles and second doubles, won all of her matches this week against NJAC opponents William Paterson University, Ramapo College and Kean University to compile a perfect 6-0 mark. Her play helped Rutgers-Camden win all three matches to qualify for the NJAC playoffs.
In a 9-0 sweep at William Paterson Wednesday, Moore won her match at third singles, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with junior
Samantha Hoban for an 8-0 win at second doubles.
On Friday at Ramapo, Moore pulled out a 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 win at third singles and joined Hoban for an 8-2 second doubles win. That duo also won an 8-2 second doubles match on Saturday against Kean and Moore completed her big week with a 6-2, 6-0 win at third singles.
Coupled with the previous Sunday, when Moore won both of her singles and doubles matches in a tri-match with King's College and Elizabethtown College, she has won her last five matches in both singles and doubles. She also has won six of her last seven matches in both events.
For the 2022-23 scholastic year, Moore owns a 9-7 singles record, all at the third flight. She is 7-3 in her last 10 singles matches. She is 10-6 overall in doubles, including 8-5 at second doubles, mainly teamed with Hoban, and 2-1 at first doubles teamed with junior
Sarah Ahrens.
Moore earned four letters in girls tennis at West Deptford High School, where she was a two-time All-Group 2 player and a two-time team MVP. An Honor Roll student at West Deptford High School, she is a Nursing major at Rutgers-Camden.
Moore becomes the second Rutgers-Camden women's tennis player to earn NJAC honors in two weeks. On April 17, Ahrens was named the NJAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her stellar play at first singles and first doubles.
Rutgers-Camden will compete in the NJAC semifinals Wednesday at top seed The College of New Jersey.
