JERSEY CITY, N.J. (April 7, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden men's tennis team had only five players for its New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Friday, so the Scarlet Raptors were at a disadvantage from the start, having to forfeit two matches.
New Jersey City University went on to win the other seven matches as well, as the Gothic Knights defeated the Scarlet Raptors, 9-0, in NJAC action.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference, while NJCU is 6-6 and 1-0.
With its lack of players, Rutgers-Camden forfeited both the third doubles and sixth singles matches. In the first doubles match, junior
Edward McWilliams Jr. and freshman
Christopher Abacan lost, 8-1. The second doubles team of senior
Hani Qureshi and junior
Matthew Tepfer dropped an 8-0 decision.
In singles, McWilliams Jr., Abacan and Qureshi lost at the first three spots, respectively, by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Tepfer lost at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1, and freshman
Jojo Nguyen lost the closest match of the day at fifth singles, 6-4, 6-3.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action with a 4 p.m. home match against Arcadia University Monday.
