CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 6, 2024) – The Ramapo College women's basketball team outscored Rutgers University-Camden, 26-5, in the third quarter and went on to defeat the Scarlet Raptors, 66-40, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops Rutgers-Camden to 0-14 overall and 0-7 in the NJAC. Ramapo improves to 8-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
The Roadrunners have won their last five games against Rutgers-Camden, although the Raptors lead the all-time series, 42-26.
Although the Scarlet Raptors led only once, at 3-2, the teams battled through a tight first half, with the Roadrunners taking a 26-23 lead into the locker room after a buzzer-beating trey from Raptor freshman guard
Maniya Simon. Ramapo, however, held the Scarlet Raptors without a field goal until 1:10 remained in the third quarter, going on a 23-2 run over that span with the only Rutgers-Camden points coming on a pair of foul shots by Simon.
By the end of the third quarter, the Roadrunners were up, 52-28. Their biggest lead, at 29 points, came at 61-32 midway through the fourth quarter.
Ramapo placed four players in double figures, including 14 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double by senior guard Jada Thompson. Senior forward Shannon Burns added 13 points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Carley Martin and freshman guard Lauren Flatt both collected 10 points.
Martin led the Roadrunners with four assists, Burns blocked three shots and Thompson had three steals.

Rahzirah Blocker scored 12 points apiece to lead the Scarlet Raptors. Blocker, who also added nine rebounds, hiked her career scoring output to 931 points.
Simon added seven points and a game and career-high four steals for Rutgers-Camden.
Ramapo shot 26-for-64 (40.6 percent) from the floor, while Rutgers-Camden shot 12-for-54 (22.2). Ramapo held a 50-36 advantage in rebounds.
The Scarlet Raptors resume NJAC action next week with a pair of road games. They play a 5:30 p.m. game at New Jersey City University on Wednesday and a 1 p.m. contest at William Paterson University Saturday.
